In the west we find emblematic Sundaic species such as Hornbills, Pheasants, Trogons & Broadbills joined by a host of rare & secretive endemics in the mountains & hills. Wallacea, formed of the central islands holds a dizzying array of unique forms. The east is Australasian in origin and consequently is packed with Birds-of-Paradise, Parrots and some of the most spell-binding mountain avifauna found on earth. Rampant habitat destruction, poaching and the bird trade have made many of Indonesia’s special birds hard to find, however all over the archipelago are people fighting for their protection, making new discoveries and becoming world-class guides, embracing eco-tourism as a tool for conservation & improving sustainable livelihoods.
