The Kali Biru or Blue River on Waigeo is

Papua

The final frontier, and worth the effort. Even ever-popular Raja Ampat has its secret corners and east of here is all yours..Some of the world's best birding, diving & least-known fauna, mountains and peoples are all in Papua's vast expanse.

The 2nd biggest island in the world, New Guinea has the largest tract of rainforest outside the Amazon & the Congo. It’s mountains are the tallest peaks between the Himalayas & the Andes. It’s surrounding reefs are the richest in the world and its biodiversity & diversity of people is staggering. Papua, part of Indonesia, is the western half of the island. As enigmatic as it is famous, often for the wrong reasons with its troubled past & ongoing localised civil unrest. Far removed from the troubles (mainly around mining towns that are off limits to travellers) are some of the world’s most pristine environments in idyllic, remote settlements filled with some of the friendliest people you are likely to meet. Never before has the island been so accessible and is ripe for exploration. Nowhere in the world is as unknown as some of the isolated peaks and islands spread over this truly vast and barely inhabited area. Eco-tourism is at it’s best here with local people fully embracing the chance to make a sustainable living from the treasures found in their ‘backyard’. Every corner of the island has its own specialties and peculiarities and with better transport links than ever before, the excellent network of people trying to promote tourism in their regions are waiting to take you to see them. Diving & snorkeling here is superlative, truly some of the world’s best. Renowned Raja Ampat wears the crown justly so with it’s otherworldly limestone seascapes with the most biodiverse reefs on earth, but other areas beckon, with Biak having world-class wreck diving & the barely discovered & stunning Triton Bay area near Kaimana, Raja Ampat without the crowds with new species still being discovered. Above the water, Papua is also known as one of the best birding locations, with some of the most sort after species on earth. Namely the Birds-of-Paradise of which 28 species are found in the region, 7 endemic to Papua & its satellites. With a supporting cast of Cassowaries, parrots, pigeons & many other spectacular families & little-known oddities unique to the New Guinea region. A new and growing appreciation for New Guinea’s mammals & herpetofauna has lead to many incredible discoveries, with once almost mythical creatures, such as tree kangaroos & long-beaked echidnas, now being seen regularly in remote spots. We have access to some of the most little-visited corners, this truly is adventure travel at its finest & rawest with spectacular hospitality in places least expected.
